Today's Weight - 226lbs, 13 lost!

I'm doing pretty good, I'd say. Although I'm a bit behind for my goal for February, I've managed to loose 2lbs this month, and 11 last month.

For dinner last evening, we roasted some yellow potatoes, turned some 90% lean ground beef in to Salisbury Steak, and steamed some green beans. It was yummy, and I got to have some for lunch again today, too. Gluten-free, lean, and tasty.

But, because of this darned cold, I was way too tired to take pictures and post the recipe. And, I still haven't gotten back on the treadmill. It's almost been a week, which is bad. Last night, though, I did lots of cleaning and stair climbing, too, as things were moved into the basement, so I think that kind of counts. But I must endeavor to walk tonight, if only to help rebuild that healthy habit.

Still holding at 228lbs

After a raucous cold this weekend, and after eating lots of homemade chicken and rice soup, Chinese delivery, and just about anything in the house that was gluten-free, I'm still managing to hold fast at 228lbs. This is a good thing.

Once breathing is not quite so laborious, I'll be back on that treadmill.

Holding fast at 228 - 11lbs lost

The last couple nights I've compulsively eaten. Peanut butter and semi-sweet chocolate chips were my make-shift candy. And, it certainly didn't help my acid reflux for me to pack that all in around 10pm at night. I take the good with the bad, but I really want to just have the good to take.

One good was all the hard work Diane Styles and I did on the Huntington Community Gardens shed yesterday. We spent 3 1/2 hours pulling everything out, using a house cleaner spray on the inside to clean out the mouse gifts everywhere, sorted it a bit, and put it back inside. We filled a 55gal trash bag with rubbish.

And, as I'm attempting gluten-free for February, my lunch and dinner consisted of salads. Diane, being the wonderful person that she is, brought me a from-scratch salad with goat cheese, walnuts and honey mustard dressing. So Yummy! For dinner, Wendy's has a nice apple chicken salad with blue cheese and cranberries. I ate it without dressing or walnuts. Later that evening, I baked a potato and put about a tbs of butter on it. After that, it was the peanut butter and semi-sweet chocolate chips. I managed to finish what was left in the jar. I didn't have but maybe 900 calories before my break-over of around 1200 calories. Plus, I burned quite a few that day. This is why I'm still managing to hold fast. In fact, as I went to bed a bit thirsty, I may be retaining water. We'll see what tomorrow's weigh-in brings.

Today's Weight - 228lbs, 11lbs lost

I just wanted to mention that, as of yesterday morning, I'm down to 228lbs. This means I've lost a total of 11lbs in the month of January. How awesome is that!

As I proceed with the gluten-free experiment, my intention is to also continue with the 90-day challenge, focusing on healthful choices and increased fitness, as well as my overall goal of reaching my goal weight of 140lbs.

Only 89 to go!

Gluten Free for 29 days

A friend of mine suggested I try going gluten-free for a while, to see if there is any improvement in some of my IBS symptoms. Those with Celiac Disease are basically "allergic" to gluten, aka they have an immune response in their digestive system when gluten is consumed. Foods that are high in gluten are made from wheat, barley and rye. Some places recommend not eating oats because of the trace amounts of gluten that can be mixed in due to cross-contamination from equipment at the factory. I'm choosing to include oats in my version of this diet, at least for the beginning.

Potato, corn and rice based foods are all good, which leaves me with lots of options. We stocked up on Russet, rice noodles, wild rice, regular rice, and grits. Hominy is something else we could get that I love (usually fried, though).

The goal is to see if I have fewer flair-ups on this diet. So, I'll need to log how I'm feeling each day. As this blog is also a partial diary of mine, this information will be posted, albeit in as unobtrusive a fashion as possible. So, we will see how gluten-free works for me.

A bit Thank You to all my Facebook friends who have already started sharing locations for purchasing gluten-free products, some recipes, and lots of support. As I test recipes, I will make sure to share them here.
